Battle of Sudoku is a multiplayer Sudoku experience where you compete against other players or teams. The goal? Fill a 9x9 grid with digits so each column, row, and 3x3 subgrid contains all digits from 1 to 9. Before starting, choose a difficulty level (1-6, 1 being easiest, 6 hardest) which determines the number of pre-filled squares. All players receive the same puzzle.
Two game modes exist, configurable in the options: "Show the correct numbers of your opponent." In this mode, every correctly placed number is visible to all players. Only the first player to correctly place a number earns points. Disabling this option hides correct numbers from other players, allowing multiple players to earn points for the same number.
Incorrect numbers result in a time-out (configurable, default 30 seconds), preventing further actions while others continue. Points are awarded for correct numbers, the amount depending on the difficulty level. Incorrect numbers deduct half the points earned for a correct placement. The game ends when the puzzle is solved. The player with the most points wins. If "Show correct numbers" is disabled, the game ends when *one* player solves it, though this doesn't grant extra points; others can still win by having fewer incorrect entries.
Team play allows two teams to compete. Join a team (1 or 2); a minimum of two players per team is required. Team points are cumulative, and notes/colors are shared, enabling collaborative strategies.
Solving tools include:
- Pen Tool: Add notes to empty squares using the pen icon. Multiple numbers can be added to the same square; existing numbers can be removed.
- Fill Mode: Change the background color of squares (including solved ones) using the paint bucket icon.
