Hanafuda Koi-Koi: A Japanese Card Game

Hanafuda Koi-Koi is a traditional Japanese card game. This guide provides an overview of the English rules.

Koi-Koi (こいこい), meaning "come again" or "one more time," is a popular two-player game using Hanafuda cards (Japanese playing cards).

The objective is to create specific card combinations, known as "yaku," faster than your opponent. These yaku are formed by accumulating cards in a point pile. Players acquire cards for their point pile by matching cards in their hand or drawn from a central pile with cards already on the table.

Upon completing a yaku, a player can choose to stop and score points or continue playing ("koi-koi") to accumulate more yaku and increase their score. While individual card point values don't directly affect the final score, they aid in identifying valuable cards for yaku formation.
