Land vehicle performance calculator.
MotorSim 2 is a performance calculator for land vehicles. Please note this application is not a driving game; it performs physics-based simulations of vehicle acceleration in a straight line.
MotorSim 2 lets you configure technical specifications and calculates the resulting performance. It features an interactive simulator with a speedometer, RPM gauge, throttle, brake, and gear shift (manual or automatic), along with procedurally generated engine sounds (not sampled) and a visual representation of the vehicle on a 1/4 mile track segment. After testing a configuration, you can save a ghost car to later compare its performance with other setups.
Configurable vehicle parameters include:
- Maximum Power
- Power curve (definable point by point)
- Torque curve (since power equals torque multiplied by RPM, defining the power curve automatically determines the torque curve)
- Maximum engine RPM (ignition cutoff)
- Gear configuration (up to 10 gears)
- Resistance coefficients (Cx, frontal area, and rolling resistance)
- Vehicle weight
- Tire size
- Shift time
- Transmission efficiency
Calculated performance parameters include:
- Top speed
- Acceleration times: 0-60, 0-100, 0-200, 0-300, and beyond
- Any other metrics measurable using the interactive simulator
