Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. In this latest update, the studio took a nostalgic look back at one of their most celebrated projects: the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international acclaim more than a decade ago.
This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing atmosphere, whereas The Alters adopts a more spirited and occasionally humorous narrative, focusing on the trials faced by alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite these contrasting tones, the developers highlight a deep thematic link between the two games.
While This War of Mine and The Alters diverge significantly in their settings and moods, both are united by the central theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players confront the brutal realities of war within a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and overcoming daily hardships to ensure the survival of their group. Conversely, The Alters presents survival as a time-sensitive challenge, with players needing to relocate their mobile base continuously to escape the destructive rays of a relentless sun that threatens to reduce everything to dust.
Both titles compel players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into perilous territories in pursuit of vital resources. The primary distinction between them lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine involves guiding a group of diverse civilians, while The Alters introduces a unique ensemble made up of different iterations of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. It will also be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, offering players immediate access to this innovative survival experience.
