Creative director Jonathan Dumont shared that completing Assassin's Creed Shadows' main story will take approximately 30-40 hours, with an additional 30-40 hours for optional content - totaling around 80 hours for full completion. This insight comes from an interview with journalist Genki, giving players clearer expectations about playtime.
While Dumont initially compared Shadows to previous entries Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla, these varied significantly in length. Recognizing how challenging open-world durations are to quantify, Dumont clarified that Shadows' scope aligns more closely with Origins. According to How Long To Beat, Origins takes about 30 hours for the main campaign and up to 80 hours for complete exploration.
For players concerned about excessive game length, Shadows appears to offer better pacing. Unlike Valhalla's demanding 60-hour main story and potential 150-hour completionist run, Shadows might deliver a more balanced yet fulfilling experience if Dumont's estimates hold true.
The highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows launches March 20th for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
