Ubisoft has unveiled its ambitious post-launch strategy for Assassin's Creed Shadows, promising players a steady stream of updates including New Game+, expanded difficulty options, fresh narrative content, and various gameplay enhancements throughout its first year.
In a newly released 4.5-minute roadmap video, the developers outlined their content plans for 2025, providing specific timelines for May and June updates. These free additions aim to keep players engaged with the feudal Japan setting while continually refining the experience based on community feedback.
The update rollout begins with "The Works of Luis Frois" in early May - the first of several free story expansions. This content drop will introduce new Codex entries and quality-of-life improvements, including expanded parkour mechanics and an enhanced photo mode. "We're committed to evolving Shadows alongside our players," explained Ubisoft's Daniel St. Germain in the announcement. "Every title update will incorporate meaningful changes based on community input while addressing technical improvements across all platforms."
June brings another story expansion alongside highly requested features like:
- Advanced difficulty options for veteran players
- Deeper immersion settings
- A dynamic open-world alert system
- The ability to toggle headgear visibility during cutscenes
The roadmap's centerpiece is the major "Claws of Awaji" expansion, slated for later in 2025. This premium DLC introduces the Bo staff weapon and a new explorable region, offering approximately 10 hours of additional gameplay. While pricing remains unannounced, pre-order customers will receive this expansion at no additional cost.
Since its March 20 launch on PC and next-gen consoles, Assassin's Creed Shadows has become both a critical and commercial success - ranking among 2025's top releases while achieving bestseller status in its debut month.
