"Breakout Beyond: A Fresh Twist on Atari's Classic"

The iconic 1976 game Breakout is set to make a stunning return with Breakout Beyond, a modern twist on Atari's classic brick-breaker. Nearly 50 years later, this new version retains the familiar paddle-and-ball mechanic but introduces a unique sideways progression, moving players from left to right as they aim to shatter bricks.

Developed by Choice Provisions, the creative minds behind the acclaimed BIT.TRIP series, Breakout Beyond promises an engaging experience. As players break bricks and build combos, the game's visuals and effects escalate, creating a dynamic and immersive atmosphere. Special bricks trigger spectacular effects, including massive explosions and even a laser cannon, adding an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay.

With 72 meticulously designed levels, Breakout Beyond offers ample content for players to enjoy. Additionally, an unlockable endless mode with an online global leaderboard provides endless replayability and the chance to compete against others worldwide. For those who prefer company, the game also supports local two-player co-op, allowing friends to join the brick-breaking fun together.

Initially planned as an exclusive title for the Intellivision Amico in 2020, Breakout Beyond's development took a different turn when Atari stepped in to acquire and complete the game. Ethan Stearns, Atari's senior director of games publishing, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, "We're thrilled to be able to bring this gem to our players. The team thought it was a brilliant concept, preserving the heart of Breakout's gameplay while also giving the formula a completely new spin. Breakout Beyond is a worthy new entry into the Breakout pantheon, and we can't wait to see the insane combos brick-breakers will make."

The Intellivision Amico, first announced in 2018 with an anticipated 2020 release, has faced numerous setbacks and delays, ultimately never making it to market. In a significant move, Atari acquired the branding and rights to Intellivision last year, but this did not include the Amico console itself.

Fans can look forward to Breakout Beyond's launch later this year across multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the Atari VCS, ensuring that players on various systems can experience this innovative take on a timeless classic.
