Breath of Fire IV makes a triumphant return to PC, 25 years after its initial release.

Originally developed by Capcom, this beloved role-playing game debuted on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, followed by a European release a year later. A PC version was subsequently launched in Europe and Japan in 2003.

The story follows a young man named Ryu (distinct from Capcom's other iconic character) who possesses the ability to transform into a dragon. He joins forces with a band of warriors to stop a power-hungry emperor from unleashing global destruction.

As a key component of its ongoing Preservation Program, GOG has fully optimized Breath of Fire IV for modern computers and is now offering it DRM-free on their platform.

The enhanced edition comes with full compatibility for Windows 10 and 11, along with both English and Japanese language options. Visual improvements include upgraded DirectX rendering, additional display settings such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, and Anti-Aliasing, as well as fine-tuned gamma correction for superior image quality. The audio system has also been overhauled, reintroducing missing ambient sounds and offering new audio configuration tools.

Breath of Fire IV is not the only classic title revived by GOG today. The newly added collection features Ultima Underworld 1+2 and Ultima 9, making the complete Ultima series accessible and preserved under GOG's Preservation Program.
