Chants of Sennaar is now available on mobile devices! Created by Rundisc and published on mobile by Playdigious, the game takes inspiration from titles like Heaven’s Vault and Captain Blood. It originally launched in September 2023 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
Chants of Sennaar reinterprets the legend of Babel through intricate puzzles and cultural exploration. The game received the Best Indie Game award at the 2024 New York Game Awards and earned multiple nominations at major events, including The Game Awards and the BAFTAs.
Decode, Learn and Connect in Chants of Sennaar
The story is based on the Tower of Babel myth, where language is both the biggest barrier and the ultimate solution. You play as the Traveler, a mysterious robed figure who awakens inside a sarcophagus at the foot of a massive ziggurat-like tower.
Each tier of this spiraling structure hosts a unique society, culture, and language. Your goal is to climb higher by deciphering these languages, uniting divided communities, and restoring communication between estranged peoples.
Gameplay involves careful observation, attentive listening, and recording symbols and translations in your journal. Slowly, you’ll connect meanings and unravel linguistic patterns. The main challenge isn’t just decoding languages—it’s using that understanding to cross cultural divides and progress upward.
The art direction is heavily inspired by Moebius and French-Belgian comics, giving every floor of the tower a unique look influenced by its architecture, technology, and inhabitants. Accompanied by an immersive score by Thomas Brunet, the game's atmosphere is richly expressive. You can watch it here.

With five distinct cultures to encounter and a sprawling tower to ascend, the Traveler’s journey is deeply thoughtful. On mobile, the game includes full cloud save support and the option to lock the frame rate at 30 or 60 FPS.
