Toby Fox, the mastermind behind the beloved game Undertale, has shared exciting updates regarding the development of Deltarune's upcoming Chapters 3 and 4. As fans eagerly await the next installment, Fox has provided insights into the console testing phase and what players can expect in the near future.
Deltarune’s Console Testing Going Smoothly
In a recent post on his official Bluesky account, Toby Fox reassured fans that the console testing for Deltarune is progressing well. Despite acknowledging the presence of fewer bugs, he noted that there is still a substantial amount of work to be done, with PlayStation 5 testing yet to begin. "Still console testing. There are fewer bugs, but there's a lot to go through. (Haven't even tested PS5 yet)," Fox stated. He also highlighted an exciting feature in development: the ability to transfer saves from the demo (Chapters 1 and 2) to the full game on consoles. This feature, which Fox hopes will work seamlessly, became possible only after recently acquiring the necessary technology. With testing showing promising results, Fox confirmed that Chapters 3 and 4 are slated for release in 2025.
Fox Namedrops New Character, Tenna
Amidst the rigorous testing and development, Toby Fox continues to engage with fans through playful updates. Known for his wit and love for internet memes, Fox recently shared a humorous interaction with his family and friends regarding a new minigame he's working on for Deltarune. "I showed my family and friends a minigame I've been working on for DR (Deltarune) and they all described it as ‘a cry for help because your game is not out’," he posted, with his family finding it amusing and his friend laughing for ten minutes straight.
This minigame has sparked speculation among fans, especially since Fox mentioned in 2024 that Chapters 3 and 4 are content-complete. Some believe this could be a hint at content for the upcoming Chapter 5, as Deltarune is planned to have seven chapters in total. Additionally, Fox teased the introduction of a new character named Tenna, who was first seen during the Spamton Sweepstakes campaign in September 2022. A friend's comment about missing Tenna led Fox to humorously remark, "man that's something no one in the world has ever said huh," confirming Tenna's appearance in Chapter 3.
Deltarune serves as the successor to Undertale, retaining many of its mechanics and charm while introducing a fresh narrative and new characters. Players will follow the adventures of Kris, Susie, and Ralsei as they embark on a quest to save the world.
