Get ready, Guardians! Bungie has just unveiled an exciting lineup for Destiny 2 under the banner of the "Year of Prophecy." This year promises four major content updates, including two new expansions and two significant updates for both paying and free players.
The first update, Rite of the Nine, is now available to all players at no additional cost. This update offers a fresh take on dungeon diving, suitable for both seasoned players and newcomers. Dive into familiar dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep, but expect unique twists and refreshed dungeon weapons as you reconnect with Orin.
On July 15, the new expansion Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate will launch. This multiyear saga introduces players to the mysterious beings known as the Nine, predating the Traveler. Two characters, new ally Lodi and Warlock Vanguard Ikora, will take the spotlight. The expansion is set on a new destination, Kepler, inspired by the puzzle-solving and exploration elements of Destiny 2's dungeons. Players can look forward to new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities.
Simultaneously on July 15, major core game innovations will be introduced. These include revamped armor and gear systems for enhanced buildcrafting and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. Players can choose between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the newly introduced Solo Ops, tailored for solo gameplay. Additionally, 50 new modifiers will allow for deeper gameplay customization and curated activity rotations will keep the game fresh.

On September 9, the Ash & Iron update will launch, followed by the second expansion, Destiny 2: Renegades, on December 2. The year will conclude with the Shadow & Order update on March 3.
Destiny 2: Renegades draws inspiration from the Star Wars universe, blending Destiny’s storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi themes and elements. This news comes as a welcome update following Bungie's layoffs of 220 staff members in July 2024, which was less than a year after 100 other layoffs.
In addition to Destiny 2, Bungie is also working on Marathon, a reboot of their classic franchise. IGN's hands-on preview praised its potential to satisfy the Bungie PvP itch, with a release planned for September on PC and consoles.
Stay tuned, Guardians, for an action-packed Year of Prophecy in Destiny 2!
