The Witcher 4's developer, CD Projekt Red, has taken to The Witcher’s official Twitter (X) account on April 16 to alert the community about a scam involving fake beta test invites for The Witcher 4. The studio's post emphasized their efforts to remove these fraudulent messages and urged players to report any suspicious invites using the tools provided by their email clients or social media platforms.
CD Projekt Red clarified that any future beta tests would be announced first on The Witcher’s official channels, ensuring players receive legitimate information directly from the source.
First Revealed in December 2024
The Witcher 4 made headlines during the Game Awards in December 2024, with a captivating trailer introducing Ciri as the new protagonist. This shift from the series' long-standing hero, Geralt, sparked widespread discussion among fans.
In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4's Narrative Director, Phillipp Weber, addressed the fanbase's reaction. Weber, who also cherished playing as Geralt, assured that the team is committed to showcasing Ciri's potential and justifying their decision, which was made well in advance.
Weber stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
The Witcher 4's Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed appreciation for the fans who supported the transition to Ciri as the lead character. "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released," Mitręga noted.
