Diablo 4's Next Expansion After Vessel of Hatred Won't Come Until 2026

by David Mar 15,2025

Disappointing news for Diablo IV fans eagerly awaiting a 2025 expansion. Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson announced at the DICE Summit that the next major expansion won't arrive until 2026.

While a content roadmap for Diablo IV's 2025 plans (including seasons and updates) is expected soon, the second expansion will not be included. Fergusson explained that this is due to the delayed release of Vessel of Hatred, the first expansion. The development team, working several seasons ahead, needed to redirect resources to address player feedback and live content adjustments, pushing back Vessel of Hatred and subsequently delaying all future content. The expansion was released 18 months post-launch instead of the planned 12.

Fergusson didn't elaborate on specifics regarding the expansion's delay beyond acknowledging the impact of adjusting to player feedback and live service needs. The recently released Season of Witchcraft, featuring new witchcraft powers and a questline, continues to provide players with fresh content in the meantime. Our initial review of Diablo IV awarded it a 9/10, praising its "stunning sequel status" and exceptional endgame design.
