Crossplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: The Pros and Cons of Disabling It

Cross-platform play has revolutionized online gaming, but it's not without its drawbacks. This guide explains how to disable crossplay in Black Ops 6 and weighs the benefits against the potential downsides.

Should You Disable Crossplay?

Disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 is a decision with significant implications. The primary motivation is often to create a more level playing field. Console players, particularly, may wish to avoid the perceived advantage of PC players using mouse and keyboard controls, which offer superior aiming precision. Additionally, the presence of cheaters and hackers, despite anti-cheat measures like Ricochet, is a concern; disabling crossplay might theoretically reduce encounters with them.

However, a major drawback is the significantly smaller player pool. This can lead to longer matchmaking times and potentially less stable connections with other players.

Disabling crossplay is relatively simple. Locate the "Crossplay" and "Crossplay Communications" toggles within the Account & Network settings. These are usually found near the top of the settings menu. Toggle the setting from "On" to "Off" using the appropriate button (X or A). This can be done from within Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty menu. Note that the image depicts the setting added to Quick Settings for easier access.

You may find the setting temporarily grayed out and unavailable. In some game modes, such as Ranked Play, crossplay has previously been mandatory. While intended to ensure fairness, this often had the opposite effect. Fortunately, disabling crossplay is expected to be fully supported in Season 2 of Black Ops 6, offering players greater control over their matchmaking experience.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
