Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Manly Drama and Hilarious Mayhem
RGG Studio promises a unique blend of serious storytelling and over-the-top comedic elements in their upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment features a "more serious" Goro Majima, according to director Masayoshi Yokoyama, particularly at the story's outset.
However, the signature Like a Dragon humor isn't entirely absent. Producer Ryosuke Horii emphasizes a core "manly drama" driving Majima's pursuit of his goals and the relationships he forges throughout his wild adventure. While acknowledging the game's comedic detours, Horii highlights the central narrative focused on a passionate individual. He further explains that Majima offers a unique dynamic unavailable with series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, justifying the heightened reality and diverse action sequences. The goal was to balance the pirate elements, Majima's personality, and the overall Like a Dragon essence – a challenging but rewarding task.
The developers aimed for a compelling balance between realism and extravagance, deliberately avoiding a mundane experience. This commitment to a "wilder" yet grounded narrative is evident throughout the game.
Majima's Maji Festival: A Celebratory Tour
To celebrate the game's launch, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival, a special event touring six Japanese cities. The tour, which began in Sapporo on December 1st, 2024, concludes with events in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, starring the iconic "Mad Dog of Shimano," promises an unforgettable modern-day pirate adventure with thrilling combat, naval battles, a vibrant cast, and a captivating story.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii launches on February 21st for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
