Dune: Awakening Coming on May 20
No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription
Dune: Awakening is gearing up for a full release on May 20, bypassing the early access phase. Funcom announced this in their latest Steam blog post dated March 21, detailing the game's business model, system requirements, and post-launch plans. Unlike its MMO counterparts such as Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online, Dune: Awakening will not require a monthly subscription. Instead, the game will evolve through free updates, introducing new content, features, and enhancements to keep the player base engaged.
Funcom is committed to long-term support for Dune: Awakening, leveraging their experience with live service games. Their track record includes Anarchy Online, which is approaching its 25th anniversary, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive regular free updates, DLCs, and expansions post-launch.
Pre-Orders Live Now and Game Editions Revealed
In the same Steam blog, Funcom hinted at optional paid DLCs and imminent pre-orders. Just a week later, on March 24, Dune: Awakening's official website unveiled the game's different editions and opened pre-orders. Players can choose from the Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate editions, each offering unique in-game perks.
Pre-ordering any edition grants players the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a detailed in-base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.
Those opting for the Deluxe or Ultimate edition will enjoy a 5-day head start, allowing them to dive into the game on May 15. The Deluxe edition includes:
- Season Pass: Access to 4 DLCs, with the first featuring placeables inspired by Arrakis' wildlife, including Shai-Hulud. The subsequent three DLCs will be released later.
- Sardaukar Bator Armor: The intimidating armor of the elite Sardaukar military force, which players will encounter in-game.
- One copy of the base game
The Ultimate edition encompasses all Deluxe edition content, plus:
- Dusk Rider Sandbike Swatch: A distinctive color pattern for your sandbike.
- Blue Dasher Ornithopter Swatch: A unique color pattern for your ornithopter.
- Caladan Palace Building Set: Building pieces and placeables inspired by the 2021 film.
- Dune 2021 Film Stillsuit: The iconic stillsuit worn by Paul Atreides in the film.
- Digital Artbook: A comprehensive 50-page artbook showcasing the game's development art.
- Digital Soundtrack: A 90-minute collection of music from the game.
