Civ 7 Devs Consider Reintroducing Past Civilizations and Leaders
Fans of Civilization 7 can still hold out hope for Gandhi's return as a leader, as revealed in an IGN interview with the game's lead designer, Ed Beach, on February 13, 2025. While Gandhi's inclusion might not happen immediately, there's a possibility he could be introduced in a future DLC.
During the IGN interview, Beach shed light on the decision-making process behind the selection of civilizations and leaders for Civ 7. "We haven't forgotten about any of our past characters," Beach stated. "There's a lot of discussion about the absence of Great Britain or England, for instance, and why they're not in our game."
The primary reason for excluding nations like Britain and India from the initial release of Civ 7, according to Beach, was the need to make room for new and exciting civilizations. "We have so many popular options, and we always want to introduce a few fresh ones that really excite our players," Beach explained. "Some civilizations have to be left out initially, but we're always looking at the bigger picture of when to bring leaders or civilizations back into the game. So, there's definitely hope for Gandhi."
Given the extensive array of DLCs released for Civilization 6, it's reasonable to anticipate that Gandhi will eventually find his way into Civilization 7. However, the precise timeline for his return has yet to be determined.
