The Version 5.5 livestream showcased their unique abilities, with Varesa's kit drawing particular attention due to its similarities to Xiao's playstyle.
How Is Varesa’s Playstyle Similar to Xiao’s in Genshin Impact?
Varesa's kit introduces a playstyle that echoes Xiao's, particularly in how she utilizes Plunging Attacks. Her Charged Attack allows her to launch into the air, enabling Plunging Attacks while generating Nightsoul Points. This mechanic is central to her gameplay, much like Xiao's reliance on his Elemental Burst for similar attacks.
Varesa's Elemental Skill, "Riding the Night-Rainbow," transforms her into a luchador pro wrestler, charging forward to deal Electro DMG. Following this, her Normal Attacks convert into Plunging Attacks without consuming stamina, a feature reminiscent of Xiao's ability to perform consecutive Plunging Attacks during his Elemental Burst, "Bane of All Evil."
By accumulating enough Plunging Attacks, Varesa can enter a powerful state called "Fiery Passion" when her Nightsoul Meter is full, enhancing her attacks and Burst. This makes Plunging Attacks an essential part of her kit, much like Xiao's.
Should You Stick to Xiao or Pull for Varesa in Genshin Impact?
The primary distinction between Varesa and Xiao's Plunging Attack mechanics is that Varesa can initiate them using her Charged Attacks without needing her Elemental Burst, unlike Xiao. This flexibility not only allows her to enter a more potent state but also sustains her Plunging Attack capability in this form.

However, it's worth noting that Xianyun, a support character beneficial for Plunging Attack users like Xiao, will be available during the same banner phase as Varesa. If you already have Xiao and lack Xianyun, she might be a more strategic choice. Otherwise, Varesa offers a fresh take on a familiar playstyle.
