Lanterns is an eagerly anticipated DC TV show that's set to blend the detective drama genre, drawing inspiration from acclaimed series like True Detective and Slow Horses. The storyline follows Chandler's Hal Jordan teaming up with Pierre's John Stewart to investigate a murder that spirals into a much deeper and darker mystery. This series is a confirmed part of James Gunn's expansive DC universe, which also encompasses Creature Commando and the forthcoming films Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
The show has been crafted by a talented team including Damon Lindelof, known for his work on Lost, along with Chris Mundy and Tom King. Lanterns promises a darker tone, with Gunn describing it as "very grounded, very believable, very real. The kind of things that you would never think that would be the truth about a Green Lanterns television series."
Kyle Chandler, renowned for his role in the drama Friday Night Lights, portrays an older version of Hal Jordan. Aaron Pierre, who made a notable impact with his performance in the film Rebel Ridge, takes on the role of John Stewart. Fans can look forward to the series premiering in 2026, the same year as the Supergirl movie.
