Whether to give Sargamis his Splinter of Eothas is one of Avowed's first significant choices, leading to vastly different outcomes depending on your decision. This Avowed guide delves into what happens if you choose to give Sargamis Eothas' Splinter.
What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
When you engage in conversation with Sargamis, it becomes clear that denying him the Splinter will lead to a grim outcome. True to his threats, if you refuse to hand over the Splinter, Sargamis will challenge you to a battle. In Avowed, he is treated as an optional boss with a significant health bar, making him one of the tougher early-game encounters.
Sargamis summons two spirit creatures to assist him in combat, though these spirits primarily target Kai and tend to ignore you. He employs thrusting attacks with his sword, enabling him to close distances quickly. However, he is susceptible to freezing, so consider using ice spells to hinder his movements.
Upon defeating Sargamis, you will acquire the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon that restores three percent of your health upon defeating an enemy and adds a 10 percent bonus to fire damage on your attacks.
What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
After agreeing to give the Splinter to Sargamis, you have two primary choices, with a third option to change your mind and provoke an attack. The first choice is to persuade Sargamis to enter the statue himself, resulting in his death and your acquisition of the Last Light of Day. The second option involves offering yourself to the statue, which leads to another decision point.
If you stand in the circle as directed by Sargamis and wait for him to activate the machine, you will die but earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading Avowed will return you to the moment before entering the circle.
Alternatively, if you step out of the circle when Sargamis instructs you to stand still, he will become enraged and attack you.
How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed
The most favorable outcome involves convincing Sargamis that his plan will not succeed, which requires some strategic effort. You need an Intellect stat of 4 or higher to access these dialogue options. If necessary, refer to our Avowed respec guide to adjust your attribute points.
Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking to Sargamis, activate the machine, and then discuss the failed attempt with him. Persuade him that his plan is doomed to fail, and he will abandon it.
In our experience, the Court Augur and Arcane Scholar backgrounds are essential to initiate this path, though each background might offer a similar choice. Guide Sargamis towards understanding that Eothas is gone, but avoid the intellect option concerning live soul transfer.
Once Sargamis leaves, you can decide whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. After making your choice, locate Sargamis in his quarters for a final conversation. Completing this part of the Dawntreader quest this way will grant you more experience than if you had fought him or given him the Splinter.
