Tidepool Games has just released a thrilling new game for Android enthusiasts, dubbed MageTrain. If you've enjoyed the fast-paced action of Nimble Quest, you're in for a treat, as MageTrain draws significant inspiration from it.
What's MageTrain Like?
MageTrain blends elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a unique gaming experience. In this game, you command a line of heroes that trail behind you, much like a snake. Each hero autonomously engages in combat as you navigate them through an arena.
Your role involves strategic positioning of your heroes—deciding who leads and who follows, as their abilities vary based on their position within the 'train'. At launch, MageTrain features nine heroes, including one who uniquely throws birds, each equipped with distinct skills that depend on their placement in the line.
Players will traverse eight distinct dungeons, confront 28 different enemy types, and unlock 30 skills to enhance their team. Throughout the game, you'll gather gold and power-ups to aid your journey.
The roguelike nature of MageTrain ensures each playthrough is unique. You'll navigate branching paths, select upgrades, and aim to survive as long as possible. This structure is reminiscent of games like Slay the Spire or FTL, where there are no fixed levels and no option to save your progress; if you fail, you start anew.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The excitement of MageTrain stems from the continual improvement you experience with each run, even if you don't succeed. You'll learn the optimal times to adopt a defensive stance, go on the offensive, or simply aim to last a bit longer.
