Mai Shiranui Boosts Street Fighter 6 Popularity with New Release

To explore a new character, players have flocked back to Street Fighter 6, which now includes Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury series.

Street Fighter 6, Capcom's acclaimed fighting game, has sold 4.4 million copies as of December 31, 2024. Despite some fans noting limited content updates, the developers recently thrilled players with a new character addition.

Mai Shiranui, the third fighter in the second season, significantly increased Street Fighter 6's popularity. On her release day, Steam's peak online players surged to over 63,000, up from the usual 24,000–27,000, marking the highest since May 2024.

Available to Battle Pass holders, Mai allows players to build relationships, learn her moves in World Tour, and compete in Battle Hub. A second costume, inspired by her Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves design, was also introduced.

Battle Hub also features a temporary guest, Professor Woshige, a legendary fighting game developer, available until March 10. New Master League ranks and rewards were added to enhance gameplay.

Capcom released a trailer highlighting Mai's dynamic techniques.
