"Marvel Rivals Dev Open to Nintendo Switch 2 Release"

by Charlotte Apr 02,2025

The hero shooter game Marvel Rivals has been a smashing hit on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has made it clear that the game won't be available on the current Nintendo Switch, disappointing many Nintendo fans. But with the buzz around the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, there's a glimmer of hope.

During the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to ask Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of a Nintendo Switch 2 release. Wu's response was encouraging for Switch enthusiasts. He stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."

The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, and although details are sparse, it promises to be a more powerful version of its predecessor. One exciting feature is the potential for mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, making it feel more akin to PC gaming. However, the exact implementation of this feature is yet to be revealed.

While the Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't have a set release date, a Nintendo Direct event is scheduled for April 2, where more information might be shared. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received high praise. Our 8/10 review highlighted its strong position in the hero shooter genre, saying it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to the addition of The Human Torch and The Thing to the game on February 21.
