Bethesda has officially stated that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered won't support official mods - but that hasn't deterred passionate fans from releasing unofficial modifications already.
A selection of community-created mods appeared on Nexus Mods mere hours after Bethesda and Virtuos' surprise release of the Oblivion remake across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. While most current offerings are minor customization tweaks, this demonstrates the unrivaled dedication of The Elder Scrolls modding community.
Currently available on Nexus Mods are 22 mods (and counting). The first published mod simply lets PC players swap the default game shortcut with alternative Adoring Fan artwork. Several options bypass the intro logos, while others like Wizard's Fury spell adjustments and compass removal already provide gameplay customization.
This modding activity comes despite Bethesda's unusual decision to omit official mod support this time, as clarified in their official FAQ. Nexus Mods contributor GodschildGaming created their Iron Longsword damage modification specifically to prove the game's modding potential.
"This proves modding remains viable," their mod description reads. "While Bethesda claims no support, the reality shows differently. The infrastructure mirrors classic Oblivion files - just buried deeper."
