The Last of Us launched in January 2023 to widespread praise, often hailed as the top video game adaptation to date. Season 1 earned eight Emmy awards from 24 nominations. Season 2 brings back Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal as Ellie and Joel, with Kaitlyn Dever joining as Abby, a soldier driven by vengeance after a personal loss. The cast also welcomes Young Mazino, Isabelle Merced, Danny Ramirez, Catherine O’Hara, and Jeffrey Wright.

Recently, creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann spoke with IGN about the ongoing “Was Joel right?” debate, a core theme since the game’s 2013 release.

“I think Joel made the right call,” said Naughty Dog’s studio head. “In his shoes, I’d hope to do the same to protect my daughter.” Mazin, however, offered a nuanced view. “I’d likely make Joel’s choice,” the Chernobyl creator said. “But I’d hope not to. That moral tension is what makes the game’s ending so compelling—it doesn’t let players off easy.”

The Last of Us Season 2 hits Max on April 13, 2025, with Season 3’s release date still unconfirmed. Dive into IGN’s spoiler-free review of Season 2 for more details.
