Set five years after the events of the first season, The Last of Us Season 2 will continue the story of Joel and Ellie as they live with Joel's brother Tommy in their Montana commune. The new season will adapt the narrative from The Last of Us Part 2, a storyline that fans of the game will recognize.

Joining Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie are new cast members, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazine as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, and Tati Gabrielle as Nora. Notably, Tati Gabrielle will also star as the main protagonist in Naughty Dog's upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

The first season of The Last of Us was a massive success for HBO, created by Craig Mazin of Chernobyl fame and Neil Druckmann, the head of Naughty Dog. The series garnered numerous Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and received five Primetime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Writing.

The overwhelming success of the initial season has HBO eagerly anticipating more, with Francesca Orsi hinting at a total of four seasons for the series. This suggests that Season 2 will not cover the entirety of The Last of Us Part 2.
