Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Switch 2 Release and New Trailer
Physical Version Includes Full Base Game on 64GB Cartridge
The physical edition of Sonic Racing CrossWorlds for Switch 2 will contain the complete base game on a 64GB cartridge. SEGA confirmed on July 16 via the game's official website that CrossWorlds will debut digitally during the 2025 holiday season, with the physical release following in early 2026.
While Nintendo has recently adopted game key cards for physical editions, SEGA has chosen to provide the entire experience on a 64GB cartridge, enabling players to start racing immediately without additional downloads. A $10 upgrade path from Switch to Switch 2 will be available, with full progress transfer between platforms.
The Switch 2 version will join the cross-platform matchmaking pool, ensuring competitive racing across all systems. However, the Limited Run Games Collector's Edition will not be produced for Switch 2. Nintendo plans to share additional details about the Switch 2 release in upcoming announcements.
New Trailer Features Over 70,000 Unique Customization Combinations
Following the Switch 2 launch announcement, SEGA revealed a new trailer demonstrating the game's extensive customization system and gadgets. In their July 17 video presentation, the Sonic team highlighted CrossWorlds' remarkable variety, offering more than 70,000 possible combinations that let racers design their perfect vehicle.
"With over 40 vehicles, 70+ gadgets, and 100+ vehicle parts & decals, there are thousands of ways to customize and tune your vehicle," the video description notes. Beyond visual modifications, the game introduces strategic gadget combinations that provide competitive advantages during races.
Players can assemble specialized gadget sets to dominate the competition, including the Heavy Hitter Bounty set that eliminates opponents with precision rockets, the Air Trick Expert enabling spectacular aerial maneuvers, and the Radio Spin Knockback that disrupts competitors' racing lines. These tools empower players to "strategize, build, and race their way to victory."
Exclusive Blue Star Machine for SEGA Account Holders
As part of their promotional campaign, SEGA is offering an exclusive vehicle—the Blue Star hoverboard—to players with linked SEGA accounts. This special machine becomes available as a SEGA Account Bonus for users who connect their accounts to their gaming platform. The reward can only be claimed between September 25 and October 31.
With these premium bonuses and the anticipated crossovers featuring Hatsune Miku, Persona, Yakuza, and other franchises, CrossWorlds is positioned to become the most comprehensive installment in the racing series to date.
