Sony Has Good News and Bad News on PlayStation 5 Themes

by Thomas Feb 24,2025

Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes will be unavailable as of January 31, 2025. However, Sony has confirmed their return in the coming months, offering a glimmer of hope for nostalgic gamers.

In a recent tweet, Sony expressed gratitude for the overwhelming positive response to the themes, stating they are working to bring these designs back.

Despite this good news, Sony also announced that no further themes are planned for the PS5. This announcement disappointed many fans who had hoped for more themed options.

The temporary themes offered a stylish throwback, transforming the PS5 home screen and menus to reflect the aesthetics of previous PlayStation consoles. The PSOne theme featured the original console's design, the PS2 theme incorporated its iconic menu shapes, the PS3 theme recreated its wave background, and the PS4 theme echoed the wave patterns of its predecessor. Each theme also included the corresponding console's signature sound effects. These were released in celebration of PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3, 2024. The absence of further themes is a setback for PS5 users who enjoyed this nostalgic feature.
