Spider-Man 2 PC Launch: Mixed Reviews Amidst Performance Issues

by Michael Feb 20,2025

Spider-Man 2's PC port, initially touted for its impressive performance based on its system requirements, has received a mixed reception on Steam. A significant number of players are reporting various technical problems, resulting in a "mixed" user review rating.

Currently, only 55% of Steam reviews are positive. Many users with high-end GPUs, including those with RTX 4090 cards and the latest Nvidia drivers, are experiencing frequent crashes. Reports include complete game unplayability and crashes occurring every few minutes, prompting several users to request refunds. One user described the experience as "rough," citing issues such as loading failures in cutscenes, extremely low frame rates in these scenes, significant audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and other performance problems.

The primary issue appears to be frequent crashes related to the game's graphics driver, even on high-end PCs. A common error message points to outdated drivers, overly demanding in-game settings, GPU overheating, or a game-related error.

PlayFurther complaints include malfunctions with features like DLSS and ray tracing, extended loading times, missing textures, and persistent audio problems. Some players report performance stutters escalating to hard crashes after extended play sessions, suggesting a potential memory leak.

Nixxes, the developer responsible for the port, acknowledged the crash reports on the Steam forums, directing users to their support website for troubleshooting guides. They also highlighted a bug impacting photo-op missions, occurring at frame rates below 20 FPS, and suggested lowering graphics settings or resolution as a temporary solution. The company requested users experiencing persistent issues submit logs and crash dumps to expedite troubleshooting.
