Stellar Blade's developer has proactively tackled fan concerns about DRM and region locking as the game gears up for its PC release. Dive into the details on how these issues will impact your gaming experience and what SHIFT UP has planned to address them.
Stellar Blade PC Updates
SHIFT UP Addressed DRM Concerns
Stellar Blade's upcoming PC version has sparked discussions around its use of Denuvo, a form of Digital Rights Management (DRM). On May 17, SHIFT UP took to Twitter (X) to clarify that their implementation of DRM is optimized to maintain the game's performance, stating, "DRM has been hard tuned to maintain the same average frame rate, with even higher minimum frames in some cases."
DRM, designed to prevent unauthorized copying and distribution, often stirs debate due to its potential impact on game performance. SHIFT UP countered these concerns by sharing comprehensive test results, which demonstrated that the game's performance metrics—such as average, minimum, maximum, 1% low, and 0.1% low framerates—remained consistent whether DRM was active or not.
Moreover, SHIFT UP confirmed that Stellar Blade on PC will support mods without any restrictions, a move that has been well-received by the gaming community. While fans have expressed a preference for a DRM-free version, SHIFT UP's transparency and performance assurances have been acknowledged positively.
Region Lock Issues
Region locking poses another challenge for Stellar Blade's PC release, particularly due to its association with PlayStation Network (PSN). Despite the game not requiring a PSN connection, regions without PSN support will still be unable to access it, affecting over 130 countries.
SHIFT UP has assured fans that they are in active discussions with the publisher to resolve these region lock issues as quickly as possible. They emphasized that both the PC and PS5 versions will provide identical content, ensuring no disadvantage to early buyers through future updates.
While fans appreciate SHIFT UP's efforts to address these concerns, there remains a desire for a game free of both DRM and PSN-related restrictions. Stellar Blade's PC version is slated for release on June 11 on Steam. Keep an eye on our updates for the latest news on this highly anticipated title!
