SteamWorld Heist 2 Officially Skips Xbox Game Pass
Contrary to earlier marketing materials, SteamWorld Heist 2 will not be launching on Xbox Game Pass, its PR team has confirmed. The turn-based strategy game, set for release on August 8th, will still be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
The initial Game Pass announcement, made in April alongside the game's debut trailer, was attributed to an error. The Game Pass logo was inadvertently included in the trailer, leading to widespread misunderstanding. Subsequent social media posts mentioning Game Pass availability have since been removed.
This isn't the first time a game's Game Pass inclusion has been mistakenly announced. A similar incident recently occurred with Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, where an Instagram post erroneously listed it as a Game Pass title. The developers quickly corrected this, explaining it as a "template mistake."
While disappointing for Xbox Game Pass subscribers anticipating SteamWorld Heist 2, the service still offers a selection of SteamWorld titles, including the recently added SteamWorld Dig and SteamWorld Dig 2, as well as last year's day-one release, SteamWorld Build.
Despite the absence of SteamWorld Heist 2, Xbox Game Pass subscribers have a robust lineup of day-one releases planned for July. These include Flock and Magical Delicacy (July 16th), Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and Dungeons of Hinterberg (July 18th), Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess (July 19th), and the highly anticipated Frostpunk 2 (July 25th). While these games vary in genre, they provide a diverse selection for players throughout the month.
