Suikoden Anime & Mobile Game Announced

by Evelyn Mar 14,2025

This week, Konami surprised and delighted classic RPG fans with a Suikoden-focused livestream. The franchise, dormant for over a decade following a Japan-only PSP release, generated considerable anticipation. The announcements were a mixed bag: a Suikoden anime (fantastic!), and a new Suikoden game… for mobile (with gacha mechanics… less fantastic).

Let's start with the good news: Suikoden: The Anime. Based on Suikoden II, this will be Konami Animation's first production. Details remain scarce, including international availability, but a brief scenic preview was shown:

This is exciting for longtime fans and potentially a great introduction for newcomers, assuming broad accessibility.

The second announcement is more divisive: Suikoden: Star Leap. This new game boasts stunning visuals, reminiscent of Octopath Traveler, featuring 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds. Set chronologically between Suikoden I and V, it promises the return of the iconic 108 Stars.

However, the mobile platform and inclusion of gacha mechanics are significant drawbacks. This monetization model is a departure from the series' premium console and PC history. Whether this impacts gameplay or character collection remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, fans can enjoy the recently released Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars. A new trailer debuted during the livestream, and the remaster launched March 6th.
