A potential title for the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie may have been revealed early after NBCUniversal briefly mentioned it in a press release.
Internet sleuths noticed that NBCUniversal’s Upfront Showcase press release listed Super Mario World among upcoming Universal Pictures and Illumination films set to stream on Peacock.
Universal quickly revised the press release, removing all references to Mario.

The original NBCUniversal press release mentioned “Super Mario World, Shrek, and Minions.” We know Shrek and Minions refer to Shrek 5 and Minions 3, suggesting Super Mario World might not be the final title for the Mario sequel but rather a broad term. After all, the next Shrek film isn’t simply titled Shrek, nor is the next Minions film just called Minions.
Still, Super Mario World is a more distinct title than Super Mario or Super Mario Bros., fueling speculation that it could be accurate. The name would align well with a sequel to the Mario movie.
