The Chinese Room has recently shared an exciting update about Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2, shedding light on the formidable vampire hunters known as the Information Awareness Bureau (IAB). This shadowy faction operates on a covert budget, without official government backing, yet manages to conduct its vampire hunting operations under the guise of "training exercises" and "counter-terrorism efforts." These hunters, referred to as "Hollow Ones," are a significant threat to the vampire community within the game.
Leading the IAB's efforts in Seattle is Agent Baker, a figure known for her disciplined approach and pragmatic nature. Dubbed "The Hen" by her loyal subordinates due to her authoritative presence, Baker is relentless in her mission to eradicate vampires. She meticulously studies historical data and investigates strange occurrences to uncover the secrets of the vampire society.
The hunters of the IAB are a well-coordinated force, maintaining strict security around their base with external and internal guards. Confronting them alone is a daunting task due to their teamwork, use of spotlights, and constant communication via portable radios. In combat, they wield thermic batons that can bypass defensive tactics, and phosphorous grenades that flush enemies out of hiding. Their sniper crossbows are particularly lethal, firing explosive bolts that can cause severe damage if not quickly removed.
Despite their prowess, the hunters have vulnerabilities. They are physically weaker than ghouls and vampires, making them susceptible to certain countermeasures. For instance, players with the Fire skill can intercept grenades or bolts in mid-air and hurl them back at the hunters. Additionally, members of the Ventru clan can use their powers to possess an enemy, turning them against their own team.
Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 is set to launch in the first half of 2025, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
