As the first week of January 2025 fades into memory, Pokémon GO enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to with the upcoming Spotlight Hour event scheduled for this Tuesday. With a slew of events already underway, including Max Mondays and Community Days, players are likely well-stocked with Pokeballs and berries, ready to dive into this exciting opportunity.

Pokémon GO is renowned for its diverse monthly events, and the weekly Spotlight Hours are a highlight, focusing on a specific Pokémon that players can catch, and perhaps even encounter in its Shiny form. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming event.

Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour

The Pokémon GO Spotlight Hour kicks off on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 6 PM to 7 PM local time. This week's spotlight shines on Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb, offering players a thrilling chance to catch these Pokémon and possibly snag their Shiny versions. Both Voltorb variants bring significant benefits to the game, particularly when extra damage is crucial.

Given that this week features two Pokémon for the Spotlight Hour, players should prepare by stocking up on Pokeballs, Berries, and Incense. These items will maximize the chances of catching and evolving both Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb into their Shiny forms. Additionally, ensure you have ample space in your Pokémon storage, as you'll be catching plenty of these Pokémon and may not want to pause to transfer them during the event.

Let's start with Voltorb, listed as Pokémon #100 in the Pokédex. This Kanto Generation 1 Pokémon can be traded and transferred to Pokémon Home. Catching Voltorb rewards players with 3 candies and 100 Stardust. Voltorb is the first stage of a two-stage evolution, requiring 50 candies to evolve into Electrode. With a maximum Combat Power (CP) of 1141, 109 Attack, and 111 Defense, Voltorb is a valuable asset when players need to deal damage in a pinch.

As an Electric-type Pokémon, Voltorb is vulnerable to Ground-type attacks, taking 160% damage from them. However, it resists Electric, Flying, and Steel-type moves, receiving only 63% damage. The optimal moveset for Voltorb includes Spark and Discharge, both Electric-type attacks, delivering 5.81 DPS and 40.62 TDO. These attacks are further enhanced under Rainy weather conditions. Voltorb also has a blue Shiny variant.

The second Pokémon featured in this Spotlight Hour is Hisuian Voltorb. Sharing the same Pokédex number (#100) as its counterpart, this Kanto Generation 1 Pokémon can also be traded and transferred to Pokémon Home. Like Voltorb, Hisuian Voltorb evolves into Hisuian Electrode with 50 candies and rewards players with 3 candies and 100 Stardust upon capture. It boasts the same stats as Voltorb: 1141 CP, 111 Defense, and 109 Attack, and is also classified as an Electric-type Pokémon.

The key difference between Hisuian Voltorb and Voltorb lies in their type matchups. Hisuian Voltorb is weak to Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison-type attacks, taking 160% damage, but resistant to Grass, Steel, and Water-type moves, receiving 63% damage, and highly resistant to Electric-type moves at 39% damage. The best moveset for Hisuian Voltorb is Tackle and Thunderbolt, yielding 5.39 DPS and 37.60 TDO. This combination is boosted in Partly Cloudy and Rain weather conditions. Hisuian Voltorb's Shiny version features a black body, distinguishing it from the standard orange.
