Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

by Ellie May 03,2025

In *Path of Exile 2*, much like other action RPGs, enhancing your character's power involves various methods, some straightforward, others more intricate. One of these methods is anointing, which we'll guide you through in detail.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing in *Path of Exile 2* becomes available later in the game, requiring Distilled Emotions, which you can obtain from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the original game, you'll recognize that Distilled Emotions function similarly to Blight Oils. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection of these emotions. Additionally, you can trade for them or use the in-game currency exchange. For those looking to upgrade their Distilled Emotions, the Reforging Bench is the place to go. Using three of the same type of emotion at the bench will yield an upgraded version of that emotion, giving you greater control over your collection.

For players seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions, though this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build to tackle the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Currently, in *Path of Exile 2's* Early Access phase, you can anoint amulets and Waystones. The process might expand in future updates. To anoint an amulet, choose a Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. The specific emotion you select here is irrelevant. Place your amulet in the central slot and then position three Distilled Emotions in the three bottom slots. To determine which emotions you need for your desired anointing effect, hover over a Notable Passive Skill in the Passive Skill Tree and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty, which in turn can yield better loot. Note that neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.

With this knowledge, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, tailoring your build's power or challenging yourself by modifying a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
