Wizards of the Coast unveiled their Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration at MagicCon Las Vegas 2025, showcasing early previews of the Avatar Aang and Aang, Master of Elements cards' artwork and abilities.
The debut of Aang in the MTG universe included a fascinating time-lapse revealing the creation process behind the stunning hand-painted artwork. The first revealed card, Avatar Aang, is classified as a Legendary Creature – Human Avatar Ally with the ability: "Whenever you waterbend, earthbend, firebend, or airbend, draw a card. Then if you've performed all four bending types this turn, transform Avatar Aang."

The second card, Aang, Master of Elements, presents a cosmic interpretation of the character as a Legendary Creature – Avatar Ally. While Avatar Aang depicts him in the empowered Avatar State, this version shows Aang channeling his abilities differently. Its text reads: "At the beginning of each upkeep, you may transform Aang, Master of Elements. If you do, you gain 4 life, draw four cards, put four +1/+1 counters on him, and he deals 4 damage to each opponent."
Fans can expect a deeper dive into this MTG and Avatar crossover on August 12, 2025, with the complete set launching November 21, 2025.
Each Magic: The Gathering collaboration represents a significant event for both Wizards of the Coast and the community. Their recent Final Fantasy crossover introduced numerous series-themed cards featuring iconic characters like Cloud, Moogles, Tidus, Sephiroth, and Noctis, among others. The overwhelming popularity has led to substantial price increases for many cards in the secondary market.
