"Evil Dead: Game Removed from Stores 3 Years Post-Launch, Servers Stay Online"

by Lucas May 20,2025

In a surprising move, Evil Dead: The Game has been pulled from digital storefronts by its publisher, marking the end of availability for new purchases. Launched in 2022 across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, this asymmetric multiplayer game drew inspiration from the beloved action horror franchise. IGN awarded it an 8/10 in our review, praising its thrilling cat-and-mouse gameplay that echoed the rough yet engaging spirit of its source material.

Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition a year after its initial launch, the game struggled to maintain player engagement. The planned Nintendo Switch version was canceled in September 2023, and content development ceased, signaling ongoing challenges.

Now, three years after its debut, Evil Dead: The Game is no longer available for purchase. However, existing owners can breathe a sigh of relief as the game's servers will remain online, allowing continued play. In a statement on the game's Steam page, developer and publisher Saber Interactive confirmed this decision:

We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.

The move has sparked a wave of negative reviews on the game's Steam page, with many players mourning its effective demise. Despite this, the game maintains an overall 'mixed' user review rating. One player with over 380 hours of gameplay left a positive review, reflecting on the fun times and acknowledging the end with a bittersweet note: "The end is nigh. It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."

Saber Interactive, known for last year's hit Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, continues to work on several licensed movie games. Their upcoming projects include John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game, Turok: Origins, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3. Fans of Saber Interactive's work can look forward to these new titles as the studio moves forward.
