The Gigabyte M6880X is a wired optical mouse, powered by a standard USB 2.0 connection (5V at 0.5A), making the fire particularly unexpected. Images show the top rear of the mouse completely melted, while the underside remained relatively intact. The cause of the localized damage is currently unknown. Additional images depict damage to the user's desk and mousepad.

Gigabyte officially responded to the incident, stating that customer safety is paramount and that they are investigating the matter. They have contacted lommelinn to offer support and determine the root cause of the failure.

"Hi Everyone, We have been made aware of the incident... Our team has reached out to lommelin to offer support and to investigate the matter fully... The GIGABYTE Team.”

lommelinn expressed bafflement, noting that their PC was in sleep mode and that subsequent voltage checks on the USB port revealed no anomalies. The cause of the fire remains a mystery. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential for unexpected hardware failures, even in seemingly mundane devices.
