GTA 6 PC Release Hinted To Come At A Later Date

GTA 6 may eventually make its way to PC, hinted by statements from Take-Two Interactive's CEO and Rockstar Games' history with their major titles. Dive in to discover more about GTA 6's future and its recent development updates.

GTA 6 on PC Unconfirmed, But Take-Two Shows Interest

GTA 6 PC Release Hinted To Come At A Later Date

While Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has not been officially announced for PC, there are strong indications that it will eventually be released on this platform. During a conversation with IGN on February 10, 2025, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick shed light on the company's platform strategy. He mentioned that their upcoming title, Civilization 7, would launch simultaneously on console and PC. However, for other games, including those from Rockstar, the approach is different. Zelnick noted, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."

This pattern is evident in the release history of previous Rockstar titles. GTA 5 initially launched in September 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, followed by a release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC release following in November 2019.

Although no official confirmation has been made regarding GTA 6's PC release, Zelnick's comments suggest a keen interest in eventually bringing the game to PC. Fans had hoped for a simultaneous launch across all platforms, but it appears that tradition might hold, with a PC version coming later.

Take-Two Confident About GTA 6 Sales Across All Platforms

Zelnick also discussed the increasing significance of PC as a gaming platform, noting that a PC version of a multiplatform game can account for up to 40% of its total sales. He emphasized the growing role of PC in what was once predominantly a console market, stating, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."

Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance on these platforms. He believes the game will not only sell well but also boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. Zelnick remarked, "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles."

He further elaborated, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."

GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been announced yet. For the latest updates on GTA 6, be sure to visit our dedicated Grand Theft Auto 6 page.

During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed interest in expanding their game lineup to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He highlighted their long-standing partnership with Nintendo, saying, "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release."

Zelnick also noted a shift in Nintendo's audience, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 confirmed for Switch, he added, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
