Honor of Kings Unveils Major Esports Plans for 2025
Following its global launch, Honor of Kings is making significant strides in 2025. Key announcements include the inaugural Philippines invitational (February 21st - March 1st) and, most notably, the global adoption of a ban & pick format for Season Three and all future tournaments.
This global ban & pick system introduces a strategic layer to the game. Once a hero is selected by a team in a match, that hero is unavailable to that team for the remainder of the tournament. This impacts player choices significantly, as many players specialize in a limited roster of characters. The system fosters team cooperation and strategic decision-making, demanding players choose between optimal team compositions and individual mastery.
A Strategic Shift
The implementation of ban & pick is a common practice in many MOBAs, including League of Legends. However, Honor of Kings' approach differs; the ban occurs after the hero selection, emphasizing individual player responsibility and team synergy. Players must consider their teammates' expertise and the overall team strategy when selecting their characters. This dynamic element is expected to increase the excitement and strategic depth of Honor of Kings esports, attracting a broader audience. The decision-making process adds a layer of unpredictability and excitement, enhancing the viewing experience.
