Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Stellar Opening Weekend

Over 250,000 Concurrent Steam Players and Rising

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has soared to new heights, surpassing 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. KCD2's Creative Director, Daniel Vávra, shared on Twitter (X) that the game hit a peak of 256,206 concurrent players. Since its launch, KCD2 has consistently broken its own records for concurrent players each day from February 4 to February 9.

  • February 4: 159,351 concurrent Steam players
  • February 5: 176,285 concurrent Steam players
  • February 6: 185,582 concurrent Steam players
  • February 7: 190,194 concurrent Steam players

KCD2 sold 1 million copies on its launch day, and with the current sales estimates, it is on track to reach 2 million copies sold soon.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Meticulous Attention to Detail

The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' dedication to the minutest details, enhancing the game's immersion and enjoyment. Building on the series' reputation for realism—such as food spoiling, the need to clean clothes and armor, and maintaining sword sharpness—KCD2 introduces new elements to further immerse players in a 15th-century medieval setting.

KCD2 Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner highlighted a new stealth mechanic to GamesRadar. He explained that as players accumulate dirt and grime, they can acquire a debuff related to body odor, which creates a detectable area around them. Bittner stated, "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you. Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."

The game also features a new weapon type, the "handgonnes," which are early firearms of the era. Bittner, in an interview with PC Gamer, discussed their challenging nature, including long reload times, inaccuracy, and safety concerns. He acknowledged, "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it."

KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their commitment to authenticity over hyperaccuracy. He said, "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double-check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible."

Post-Launch Roadmap

Warhorse Studios has outlined a post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged beyond the initial release. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content throughout 2025.

The free updates scheduled for Spring 2025 include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing. Paid DLC content will roll out starting in Summer with "Brushes with Death," followed by "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.

Given its tremendous opening weekend success, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial triumph with these updates and future expansions, potentially setting even more records along the way.
