Sony is dropping the PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement for several of its PC games, starting with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launching tomorrow. This means players won't need a PSN account to play titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, God of War Ragnarök, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. The impact on other single-player PC ports remains unclear.
However, Sony is incentivizing PSN account connections with in-game bonuses. Connecting your account will unlock perks such as early suits in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and resource bundles in God of War Ragnarök. The Last of Us Part II Remastered offers bonus points and a skin, while Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered provides an outfit. Sony promises more benefits to come. See the full list below:
PlayStation in-game content incentives on PC:
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 - Early unlock suits: the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit. God of War Ragnarök - Access to the Armor of the Black Bear set (previously only available in New Game+) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP). The Last of Us Part II Remastered - +50 points and Ellie's Jordan’s Jacket skin. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered - Access to the Nora Valiant outfit.
Sony also highlights that account linking provides access to features like trophy support and friend management. The company’s previous insistence on PSN account linking for PC games, even single-player titles, faced significant backlash, particularly in regions without PSN access. This policy reversal follows a similar situation with Helldivers 2 last year, where a PSN requirement was quickly retracted.
