Spider-Man 4 Slightly Delayed to Avoid Clash with Nolan's The Odyssey

by Ethan Apr 27,2025

The much-anticipated fourth installment of the Tom Holland Spider-Man series has been rescheduled for release on July 31, 2026, marking a one-week delay from its original date of July 24, 2026. Sony Pictures made this announcement as part of an update to its release calendar, and the shift seems strategically designed to avoid clashing with the premiere of Christopher Nolan's new film, The Odyssey.

By moving the Spider-Man release date, the film will now premiere two weeks after The Odyssey, rather than just one week apart. This adjustment provides a beneficial buffer, allowing both films to maximize their exposure on Imax screens—a format particularly favored by Nolan. Interestingly, Tom Holland will be starring in both movies, so he certainly won't mind the change.

Marvel Studios has confirmed that this new Spider-Man movie will follow their upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, set for release on May 1, 2026. The fourth Spider-Man film will be helmed by director Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Cretton was initially slated to direct the next Avengers movie, but a shift in storylines, influenced by developments around the Kang character, led to the Russo Brothers taking over the direction of Avengers: Doomsday, with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom.

This news has fans buzzing, with many already coining terms like "Oddy-Man 4" to describe the exciting double feature of The Odyssey and Spider-Man 4. For more details on upcoming Marvel projects, be sure to check out our comprehensive list [ttpp].
