In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, there's no direct sprint button; your character will automatically sprint after a few steps of running. While sprinting is fast, you often need to traverse vast battlefields to reach other officers swiftly and turn the tide of battle in your favor.

This is where your horse becomes crucial. You can summon it at any time in the overworld or during battle, and even engage in combat from horseback for swift hit-and-run tactics. Let's dive into how you can unlock your first horse, level it up, and switch between different steeds.

How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Unlocking your first horse is a breeze and comes at no cost during Chapter 1. After completing the second major battle, "Test Of Zheng Fei," a merchant will appear in the overworld as you make your way to the Battle Of Guangzong. You'll find this merchant northeast of Wan Castle but before reaching the camp, standing next to his horse. Simply talk to the merchant, and he'll gift you the horse, which will be automatically equipped.

To summon and mount your horse instantly, press down on the left joystick if you're on a console, or press the 'V' key if you're using a keyboard.

How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your horse will gain XP whenever you complete missions or main story battles while it's equipped, regardless of whether you actually use it. Note that Skirmishes won't contribute to your horse's XP. Missions, marked with a red diamond featuring a soldier icon, are your go-to for medium-length fights. The XP your horse earns depends on the battle's duration, how much you ride, and how you use your horse to charge into enemies. As your horse levels up, it will unlock unique buffs at various intervals, with each horse offering different advantages.

How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your initial horse is automatically equipped, but you'll have opportunities to acquire and switch to other horses. You can manage your horses in the Battle Preparation menu, found as the last option on the left side of the screen. Each horse comes with different perks, and some are inherently faster and better suited to your playstyle. To get new horses, you'll need to maximize the peace level in a region; once achieved, a new horse will be your reward, left at a nearby waypoint. Always consider switching to a new horse when one becomes available to optimize your gameplay.
