Sony's Project Defiant PlayStation Arcade Stick Launches 2026

by Samuel Jan 06,2026

It's 2025, and Sony PlayStation has introduced its first dedicated wireless fight stick for PS5 and PC.

Edwin Foo, Vice President of Product Development at Sony Interactive Entertainment, explained that the stick—internally known as Project Defiant—aims to offer players "greater flexibility in enjoying their favorite fighting games."

Sony guarantees ultra-low latency over a wireless connection on PS5 or PC, alongside the option for a wired setup. This is crucial for fighting game enthusiasts who demand the utmost precision and immediacy for their combo inputs.

The device also features an ergonomic design, a custom-designed "high-quality digital stick" from Sony, and tool-free interchangeable restrictor gates. Players can switch between square, circular, or octagonal gates, with all options storable in the controller's convenient compartment. It even includes a sling carry case.

Price and specific release date remain unconfirmed for now; Sony has only committed to a launch window in 2026.

Sony's fight stick announcement is well-timed, as the company is collaborating on Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls—a new 4v4 Marvel fighting game from Arc System Works, the studio behind the Guilty Gear series. That title is also slated for 2026, suggesting a potential synchronized release with the controller.

Kicking off the summer reveal season in style, Sony presented a feast of new games to build excitement ahead of Summer Games Fest week. Here's everything announced at PlayStation State of Play 2025 last night, including 007 First Light, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and the release date for Silent Hill f.
