The long-running GTA 6 mapping project has entered a new phase of excitement following the release of Trailer 2, with one of its key members stating to IGN that "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord, which now boasts nearly 400 members, is abuzz with activity as enthusiasts dive into the new details provided by Trailer 2.
"It's an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza, the overseer of the Discord server, shared with IGN. "We have so much new content to work on and we're really just getting started."
The inception of the GTA 6 Mapping Discord came after the significant leaks of September 2022, which some fans believe were humorously referenced by Rockstar at the beginning of Trailer 2. The project's aim has been to create the most accurate GTA 6 map possible, a task that was primarily based on the leaks and the first trailer released in December 2023 until now.
The latest iteration of the GTA 6 map, version v0.049 released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, has now become outdated due to the wealth of new information from Trailer 2. This has spurred efforts to create a more detailed and accurate map.

Alongside confirming plot details and characters, Rockstar released 70 new screenshots and provided insights into various explorable locations within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's rendition of Florida. Confirmed locations from this week's reveal include Vice City (GTA 6's version of Miami), the tropical archipelago Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the national landmark Mount Kalaga near the state's northern border.
The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of everything shown and to align images of fictional spaces with their real-world counterparts. This effort aims to solidify more of GTA 6's map. Once completed, DuPz0r will release an updated version, potentially giving fans their clearest preview yet of what to expect from GTA 6 upon its release in May 2026.
Should Rockstar release more GTA 6 assets before then, such as gameplay footage, the volunteers are ready to refine their work further. Only after GTA 6's official release will they be able to compare their fan-made map against the actual game to assess their accuracy.

However, the project faces potential legal challenges from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. In March, a modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to halt all work after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. This mod was inspired by the GTA 6 mapping project.
When asked last year about the possibility of legal action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern." He noted, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
As the community eagerly awaits further developments, stay tuned for more on GTA 6, including all the details we've uncovered so far and the emerging fan theories from Trailer 2.
