How to Begin the Hermit Quest
The Hermit quest automatically unlocks upon completing Radovan's blacksmith quests. After recovering the lost cart, report back to Radovan. He'll then commission you to forge a wedding gift – a sword – initiating the Hermit questline. Before you can meet the hermit, however, you'll need to gather information from the Troskowitz villagers.
Gathering Information
Begin by speaking with Innkeeper Betty at the Troskowitz tavern, exhausting all dialogue options. Then, interview other villagers; speaking with the alehouse maid and trader proved helpful in my playthrough.
Acquiring Evidence
Next, talk to Gerda, a key witness to a mysterious event. Offer her Groschen or succeed in a dialogue check to obtain her testimony. Similarly, speak with Stanislav in Apollonia, again using Groschen or dialogue skills to extract information.
With this intel, locate the grave Gerda described, using a spade (purchase from the Troskowitz trader or find one in a cemetery). Dig to uncover Groschen and documents related to the Knights of the Cross. Examine these documents. Finally, investigate the quest marker in Apollonia – a hut and clearing with a black horse – for further clues.
Confronting the Hermit
Proceed to the hermit's hut. Without evidence, the hermit will be uncooperative. Once you present your findings, choose dialogue options like "You're suspicious" and "Out with it!" to uncover his true identity: Konrad. He'll request you deliver a cross to a widow, Margaret, initiating the optional Sinful Soul quest. You can complete this by helping her bury Ambrose or return directly to Konrad.
Choosing Your Path: Aid or Betrayal
Upon returning, you'll find Crusaders near the hut. You must decide whether to aid Konrad's escape or assist the Crusaders in eliminating him. If you choose to aid Konrad, sneak to his hut and speak with him. After completing the task, inquire about the sword's location. The choice to help or kill Konrad is yours. Killing Konrad is simpler than confronting the Crusaders. After killing Konrad, return the documents to the Crusaders for a reward.
Retrieving the Sword
Locate the sword embedded in two intertwined oak trees north of the hut. Retrieve it and return to Radovan in Tachov to complete the quest.
