Exciting news for League of Legends fans: Hextech Chests are making a triumphant return following passionate feedback from the community. Dive into the details of the upcoming update and what's on the horizon for LoL.
League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Decisions
Hextech Chests Make a Comeback
In a recent developer update posted on February 27, 2025, Riot Games announced the return of Hextech Chests to League of Legends (LoL). Accompanied by a video on their YouTube channel, the update detailed the forthcoming changes. Riot Games admitted that some of their recent modifications didn't resonate well with the player base, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
The reintroduction of Hextech Chests was a direct response to fan demand. LoL explained, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Starting with patch 25.05, players will once again be able to earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, while the other two can be obtained via the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser and More Changes Based on Fan Feedback
Riot Games also shared that the highly anticipated Exalted Mordekaiser skin, along with the entire Exalted skin line, will be delayed. The team wants to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This means that fans won't see an Exalted skin in every Act this year as initially planned.
In response to further feedback, LoL will replace one non-Prestige skin with 25 Mythic Essence, acknowledging "clear feedback that there’s both a lack of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and that we’ve been doing more champions for each seasonal theme than makes sense."
To enhance player accessibility, LoL will also lower the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting with patch 25.05, addressing recent discussions about blue essence and champion shards.
Additionally, Riot Games decided to reverse their earlier decision to reduce the frequency of Clash events. Clash will now return to a monthly schedule, with March’s event being ARURF and a regular Summoner's Rift (SR) Clash planned for April.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Return
In response to fan requests, LoL is bringing back the Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop will make its first appearance of the year in patch 25.06, followed by the Blue Essence Emporium in patch 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to ongoing improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
With these responses, it's evident that Riot Games is actively listening to their community and making adjustments to better suit their audience. League of Legends remains available for free-to-play on PC. Stay updated with the latest news and developments on our League of Legends page.
