Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The trend of remaking classic games has seen a resurgence, with titles like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 receiving modern updates. Now, the original Devil May Cry (DMC) could join their ranks, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has shown interest in revisiting the beloved game.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel on May 8, Kamiya engaged with fans, answering questions about potential remakes and sequels. When asked specifically about a DMC remake, he responded enthusiastically, saying, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Devil May Cry first hit the shelves in 2001, initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, the project evolved significantly, leading Capcom to transform it into the action-packed DMC.
Reflecting on its creation nearly 25 years later, Kamiya revealed a deeply personal inspiration for the game. He shared that in 2000, he experienced a painful breakup that left him in a state of depression. This emotional turmoil fueled the creation of DMC, becoming a cathartic outlet for his feelings.
Kamiya confessed that he typically does not replay his games post-release, including DMC. Yet, when he occasionally encounters gameplay clips, he is reminded of the game's age and its outdated design elements. If given the chance to remake DMC, Kamiya would approach it from scratch, leveraging today’s advanced technology and modern game design principles.
While the idea of a DMC remake is not at the forefront of his mind, Kamiya is open to the possibility. He stated, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." Additionally, Kamiya expressed interest in remaking another of his works, Viewtiful Joe, sparking excitement among fans eager to see these classics reborn with contemporary flair.
